A tiny solo mapping TTRPG about dungeon-crawling in an endless labyrinth, made for the 24-Word RPG Jam.

(Why no, there's no paradox between the game's title and the absolute lack of "win" conditions...)

Notes upon further playtesting...

  • Boy howdy, 24 words is a challenge! I can't cover for even common complications.
  • My original intention was to have a solid wall (#3) behind every monster and treasure chest. However, another option would be to reroll for the wall surface after dealing with the monster/treasure, adding further potential for a door, breakable wall, or even another monster behind the first (or treasure behind a monster!). I think I like this method better. It also reduces the likelihood of being trapped in a doorless box.
  • Speaking of original intentions, I imagined the player starting with their back to a solid wall. That... may not make a lot of sense. Perhaps starting at the top/bottom of a staircase would help decrease the odds of getting stuck in a single room in the early game.
  • Without lucking out and getting the hammer in a treasure chest to break cracked walls, it's pretty easy to get stuck in a tiny set of rooms. I'd like to add a secondary rule that a player can destroy their sword or shield to break 1 cracked wall, as an option to keep the game going.
  • It might help if I included easy notation for the player to reference in drawing their own maps (e.g. blueprint notation for doors/windows/stairs/etc).
  • If one succeeds in fleeing a monster, probably would have to leave the room rather than rolling for the rest of the walls in that room. Likewise though, one can always go back and try again with the monster to continue exploring that area.
    • If someone can't flee to another room for any reason, we can treat the successful "flee" roll as a "dodge" instead and reroll the monster D6 to see if we can dodge again, take a hit, or kill the monster ourselves.
      • Heck, should I rename "flee" to "dodge"? And then have the butterflies as the only way to perma-flee? Hmm...
